Cartografia, evolucion y sociedad: La historia de una ciudad contada en mapas

En base al proyecto “Mapping the Old City of Ahmedabad through Cartograph” se ha podido reconstruir la historia de la ciudad de Ahmedabad, en la India:
“Tal vez muchos de los hispanohablantes no tengan muchas referencias sobre la ciudad de Ahmedabad, sin embrago es la séptima en tamaño de las ciudades de la India y eso ya es decir bastante. Aunque se tiene información sobre su existencia desde el siglo XI, su fundación oficial data del año 1411 y la principal finalidad de este esfuerzo fue la de establecer un centro político y administrativo para el Sultanato de Gujarat. A partir de entonces su historia a seguido una ruta complicada hasta nuestros días, perdiendo autonomía primero con los mogoles de Abkar y luego por obra y gracia de los británicos.
Esta rica y sinuosa historia es contada a través de su cartografía -mapa a mapa- en el siguiente video preparado por Vijayimpossible.
En realidad el video narra dos historias, por un lado la de la ciudad de Ahmedabad, en el contexto de la evolución y transformación de la India en estos últimos 6 siglos y, por otro lado la del desarrollo de la cartografía sus modos, técnicas, instrumentos y formas de representación, dedicando sus últimos minutos a los actuales sistemas de información geográfica.
El proyecto ha sido denominado “Mapping the Old City of Ahmedabad through Cartography” y, aunque no me queda claro quien es autor, lo cierto es que el video mostrado es más que sugerente. Seguir leyendo
